The following is a list of basic IRC commands and a short word on how to use each one.
/join - This command is used to join new channels. An example:
/join #Aladdin

/away - This command marks you as being away or not.
An example would be:
/away On the Phone (Marks you as away)
/away (Marks you as not away)

/list - Shows a list of all channels

/msg - Send a message to any IRC user.
Example:
/msg (User's IRC Nick) Hello what channel are you in?

/rules - lists the networks rules

/nick - Used to change you nickname
Example:
/nick MyNewNick

/invite - Used to invite a user into the same room as you
Example:
/invite (User's Nickname) (Channel Name)
